FAQs

1. How common are head lice?

Head lice are very common among children ages 3–11, with 6–12 million cases per year in the U.S. Adults and teens can also be affected.

2. How do head lice spread?

They spread mainly through head-to-head contact. Sharing hats, brushes, helmets, and other personal items can also pass lice. Cleanliness has nothing to do with it.

3. What are the symptoms of lice?

  • Itchy or tickly scalp
  • Red sores behind the ears or at the nape of the neck
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Live lice or nits (tiny eggs) attached to hair shafts

4. How can I detect lice?

Look for nits firmly attached to the hair shaft. They are about the size of a poppy seed and cannot be brushed off like dandruff.

5. What is the best treatment?

The only way to completely get rid of lice is to manually remove all nits. Natural, non-toxic products are safer than chemical treatments, which may be harmful and less effective against “super lice.”

6. How can I prevent lice?

  • Avoid head-to-head contact
  • Don’t share combs, hats, or helmets}
  • Keep long hair tied up
  • Check kids’ hair regularly
  • Using our ''Prevent it'' products

7. Are chemical lice treatments safe?

Many drugstore lice treatments use pyrethrin or permethrin, which are toxic and can harm children. They are also less effective as lice develop resistance (“super lice”).

The safer alternative is to use natural, non-toxic products in combination with manual nit removal.
